Talk, and Typer types it. In any text field, on Mac and Windows.

Hold the Typer shortcut, say what you mean and let go. Typer drops the ums and false starts and types clean text right where your cursor is.

Coming soon for WindowsMac: version 1.1.21, macOS 14 or later

Works where your team already writes.

Email, chat, notes, a code editor. Click into a text field, hold the shortcut and talk.

Clean text, exact details.

Typer removes filler words, false starts and changes of mind, and keeps names, numbers, email addresses and times exactly as you said them.

Switched apps too early?

Typer won't guess where your text goes. Go back to the app you started in within 20 seconds and it types there, never into the other app. If it can't confirm the text field, you get your full text on a card with a Copy button.

Get set up in four steps. Most of it is guided.

  1. Download

Get Typer for Mac or Windows and install it. On Windows it installs without admin rights.

    Download for Mac

    Coming soon for Windows

  2. Sign in

Sign in with your expertise.ai account. No API key needed.

  3. Allow microphone access

On a Mac, also allow Accessibility so Typer can type into your apps. Setup walks you through it and checks your microphone.

  4. Try it

Setup ends with a practice dictation. Then click any text field, hold Fn on a Mac or Ctrl + Shift + Space on Windows, and talk.

For IT and security.

  • Requirements

Mac: macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon or Intel, signed and notarized by Apple. Windows: Windows 11 24H2 or later, x64 or ARM64, a signed installer that needs no admin rights (coming soon).

  • Permissions

Microphone on both. On a Mac, also Accessibility, so Typer can type into other apps. Typer never changes your security settings for you.

  • What leaves the computer

Audio goes to OpenAI for transcription, using access issued by expertise.ai. Rewriting goes through the expertise.ai service.

  • What stays on the computer

Dictation history, which you can clear, and audio saved in case a recording needs to be retried. Finished recordings are cleared when Typer starts, once they are a day old. Sign-in does not sync history or settings to the cloud.

  • Updates

Signed automatic updates on Mac and Windows. Typer never restarts in the middle of a dictation.

  • Languages

Recognizes 47 languages. Double-tap Fn to type what you say in another language.

Questions

Download the DMG, drag Expertise Typer into Applications and open it. Setup walks you through Microphone and Accessibility access, checks your microphone and your shortcut, then has you try a practice dictation.

A Mac on macOS 14 or later, or a PC on Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, and an expertise.ai account. You sign in once in your browser; no API key is needed. You can still connect your own OpenAI key as an advanced option.

On a Mac it can. Setup links to Keyboard settings, where you turn off Apple's Dictation shortcut and set "Press fn key to" to Do Nothing. You can also choose a different shortcut. On Windows the shortcut is Ctrl + Shift + Space instead of Fn.

Typer types into the text field you were in when you started: email, chat, documents, browsers and more. When it can't confirm that field safely, it shows your text with a Copy button rather than pasting somewhere unexpected. Recognition can still make mistakes, so check anything important before you send it.

Typer checks its signed update feed in the background and installs a downloaded update after 15 seconds of idle time. It waits while you dictate or have text pending.

Not yet. A Windows version for Windows 11 version 24H2 or later, on x64 and ARM64 PCs, is coming soon.
